Defining the hair ends adds pep to singer Haley Bennett’s classic short bob with a middle parting. The outwardly pointing hair ends give this traditional look a modern and sassy twist.

Styling: Apply a walnut-sized amount of styling mousse to damp hair, create a middle parting and dry using a large round brush. Ensure that you use the brush to curl the ends of your hair outwards as you dry.  To finish, rub a pea-sized amount of hair wax between your fingertips and use to define the hair ends.

Actress Kate Mara has joined the trend and has gone for a chin-length bob. The photo shows her wearing a short sleek bob with the top hair pulled back away from her face and secured with hair slides.

Styling: After applying heat protectant to dry hair, straighten your hair.  Distribute a small amount of hair oil between your hands before using them to smooth the hair back from the face, taming any fly-aways and creating an austere look. Secure the hair using one long or two short hair slides. Apply hairspray for a secure hold.

Leelee Sobieski opted for a cool wet style. Her bob is modern and extravagant while its feminine quality flatters her facial features.

Styling: Distribute a hazelnut-sized amount of hair gel onto your fingers and apply through dry hair, pulling the hair away from the face. To create the wet look, apply a further small amount of hair gel to your hair from the roots to the mid-lengths, styling the hair close to the head. Comb the gel through the hair and blow dry. Finish with hairspray for extra hold.

Miroslava Duma wears a retro 1920s style bob. Her hair is parted on one side and brushed across her forehead before being secured with a hair slide.

Styling: After shampooing, work a volumizing styling mousse through your hair and blow dry using a round brush. Create a straight side parting and, using a curling iron, loosely curl the hair through the mid-lengths and ends. Secure the hair to one side using a hair slide and finish with a shine boosting hairspray.

Add some old school glamour to your look with retro waves.. Brittany Snow wears her medium length bob with well-defined waves and low side parting. Her hairstyle is reminiscent of the Hollywood glamour of the 1940s and 1950s.

Styling: Work a tennis-ball sized amount of styling mousse through towel-dried hair. Using a styling comb,  create a straight side parting. Roll large strands of hair onto medium-sized curlers from the hair ends to about halfway to the roots. Then blow-dry your hair completely. Allow the hair to cool before removing the curlers and use your fingers to shape the curls. On one side, comb a small amount of hair gel into the hair close to the roots, sweeping the hair away from the face.
