Mr Testino, ...
... what do you feel is the message behind the Schwarzkopf Looks 2015? Is there a unifying element?
MARIO TESTINO: The message is clear: do what you want, because anything is possible. The Schwarzkopf Looks 2015 offer every woman a choice to suit her style and personality. With its new Trendy Hairstyles 2015, Schwarzkopf presents trends also found in the fashion world. The Backcomb Grunge concept complements upcoming collections from Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent, for instance. At the same time, Backcomb Grunge can be styled to be sexy and wild, or cool and relaxed. This "do what suits you" principle equally applies to the Micro Fringe, Pastel Story and Double Square looks.
What epitomizes the grunge look for you?
MARIO TESTINO: In the late 1990s, grunge was a way of life. Those who followed it didn’t care about success and status. Grunge represented the anger and disillusionment of Generation Y, and cropped up in fashion, music and lifestyle. Things are different nowadays. Young people are ambitious and want personal success. Grunge is still around today, but is now a question of look rather than lifestyle.
What kind of woman can wear the Micro Fringe look?
MARIO TESTINO: For this look you need an expressive face. The Micro Fringe frames the face, almost like a painting. This emphasizes facial features and highlights distinctive characteristics. The short fringe and smooth structures direct our focus to beautiful eyes, a unique mouth or a classic profile. This look is a statement. It will always accentuate a woman’s distinguishing features. With a micro fringe, you can look cool, mysterious, tough or elegant.
What makes Pastel Story so special?
MARIO TESTINO: The look can soften simply any style. With soft colour accents, Pastel Story will flatter every woman and every hair type. I like this look a lot! Just a few colour gradations here and there subtly refresh the look without making big changes like an entirely new cut or colour.
What can you tell us about the Double Square look?
MARIO TESTINO: It’s striking and modern. Its hallmark features are strong contrasts and colours that appear two-dimensional at first glance – a concept is echoed in fashion collections from Emanuel Ungaro, Celine and Marni. Choppy ends and contours combine with ombre colouring to soften the look’s strong contrasts.
Which of the Schwarzkopf Trendy Hairstyles 2015 is your favourite?
MARIO TESTINO: I don’t have a single, favourite look. I enjoy individuality and like to see a look that suits a woman’s personality.
How did you like working with Schwarzkopf hair expert Armin Morbach?
MARIO TESTINO: Armin is a consummate professional. He was always focused and well prepared for each photo shoot, but was also cheerful and relaxed. We had a great time; it was huge fun working with Armin.
What are your criteria for selecting models? And do they differ depending on whether you’re doing a fashion shoot or a beauty shoot?
MARIO TESTINO: There is a huge difference between fashion shoots and beauty shoots. At shoots for cosmetics and hair products, everything revolves around the face and hairstyle. I take more close-ups of the models and even the smallest of details has to be perfect. When I do fashion shoots, it’s all about on the look.
